3 Responses to Finland

  1. 1. If there is 3G support in Finland, it is a recent development. When there were only 3G Kindles available I investigated and found that there was NO 3G support available for Finland (so I waited for a Wifi-Only Kindle to be available at a lower price).

    2. In addition to the $2 surcharge, there is also tax added to the price of the book plus the $2. This tax is probably 15% as the “free” books cost $ 2.30 and chargeble books have that kind of addition [New Book Price (BP) = BP + 2 + ((BP+2)*(15/100)) ]

    3. Kindles for delivery to Finland need to be ordered from Amazon US and the cost becomes the US cost of the device plus about the same again in postage charges and taxes.

    4. Kindles can be ordered from Amazon US to a UK address. It’s advisable then that the order is for the Wifi only version. The total cost is then £109 or ca 140 Euros. It is advisable to buy when in the UK to collect the device to buy an adapter (ca £3) from the three-point UK plug supplied with the Kindle to a 2-pin “European” plug. The device can then be charged from the mains in Finland and thus charging times are a fraction of the times needed when charging via a computer’s USB port.

    5. Kindles bought at Amazon UK use your Amazon UK account details for access Kindle but when living in Finland, you still can’t order any Kindle content from Amazon UK, you must still order content from Amazon US.

  2. In 5. That should have been (UK account details) “.. for access to the Kindle management page for your device.”

  3. Oops 2:

In 4. That should be “can be ordered from Amazon **UK** to a UK address” – not from Amazon US.

(where’s an Edit function when you need one …. )
